About the Author

Mary Meyers

Mary Meyers was an English Language Consultant for Universities and Boards of Education across Canada. She has over 37 years of experience in Education, and has held positions as Director of Reception Programs for Newcomers, and Lead Teacher for Multicultural Placements for teachers-in-training from George Brown and Centennial Colleges. Mary has written highly acclaimed Professional Development texts and articles that cross over from English language programs to regular teaching training, programming and curriculum. Her two texts are abstracted on the TESOL International databank. Regarding consultations and educational services, Mary has received consistently high praise for her lively, valuable and practical presentations.

Mary is a prolific writer and materials developer. Her 2004 text, "In Our Classrooms" was adopted by two large school districts, one for every school. She has been called a pioneer in the development of practical resources. Mary's materials are used across all levels and ages of ESL, Elementary to Adults, and for Professional Development. Her materials are sold through distributors in both Canada and the United States.

After obtaining her TESL Specialist at the University of Toronto in 1984, Mary won a competition for a yearlong research leave to further her studies in TESL. After winning the Teachers Federation Writer's Award for her first text in 1993, Mary went on to author multiple resources for teachers through her own company, Mainstreams Publications.

Mary is recognized as a Canadian leader in the field of English Language Learning, as a popular author, and as a strong advocate for improvements in English language education.
